I have recently obtained a copy of "The Oldest: A Facinating List of Britain's Oldest Everything" by Julian Calder and Alastair Bruce (see http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1844030806/qid=1146479516/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_3_2/203-2537034-7728747#product-details for details).

It is a lovely hard-back coffee table book and is full of fascinating nonsense! The Amazon synopsis says "From the oldest gin distillery to the oldest apple tree, a fascinating compendium of Britain's oldest everything From the oldest gin distillery to the oldest pedigree pig, this beautifully photographed book offers an original and unusual look at the history of Britain. The oldest surviving buildings, businesses, sports clubs, transport routes, gardens and even the oldest tree are among over 200 fascinating subjects in this intriguing pictorial account of Britain's rich heritage. Providing glimpses of a hidden past that might otherwise go unnoticed, The Oldest shows that even our most ancient history is all around us."

Of interest to this forum is a full page photo of my father (see http://www.clanmclea.co.uk/Chief.htm ) and a small article on page 50 under the Heading Oldest Title. The text is not quite correct in all aspects (Columba and Moluag were not brothers).

I obtained a copy for 13 which I thought good value.
