Hi Karen,  I had suspected that your James Livingston might have been one of Robert Livingston's son or connected to that family as his Livingston Manor was located in what is today Columbia County, New York State which is the County where Kinderhook is located. But I am sorry to say looking through the family trees of Robert Livingstone and his sons John, Phillip, RObert Livingston Jr., Gilbert and William, I just don't see anywhere that he fits into this family unless someone missed him in their research.   Was his wife's family Kuhn of Palatine German origin? Alot of Palentine Germans settled in New York State in early 1700's and it is known that some Palentines settled as tenants in Livingston Manor or elsewhere in Columbia and neighbouring Dutchess County. My German ancestors settled a little farther south not far from Poughkeepsie,Dutchess County New York in the 1750's. I notice on some of the later family records of ours in the early 1800's the name Robert Livingston of Poughkeepsie, a government official of some sort and kin to above mentioned Robert Livingston.  I was told by some New York State researcher at one time that some of the Palentines changed their name to Livingston because it was the name of their landlord at Livingston Manor, but don't remember the details about this.  A search of the LDS info on James Livingston and his wife Catharine Kuhn told me little more, except that her parents were of German origin. regards Donald (Livingstone) Clink
