Macleays in Dingwall parish 1851 Scottish Census |
Abigail Macleay b. abt. 1788 in Contin parish
Donald Macleay son b. abt. 1809 in Contin parish
John Macleay b. abt. 1811 in Contin parish
Mary Macleay b. abt. 1822
son James Macleay b? in Dingwall parish
daugher Mary Macleay b. abt. 1849 in Dingwall parish.
It would seem then that these Macleays that lived in Dingwall Parish originated from Contin parish Macleays and therefore I suspect they are connected to the old Strathconnon, Contin Parish, Ross and Cromarty County Macleas (Macleays) that may have once lived in the Appin area until forced out apparently by the Appin Stewarts.
Any chance these folks are related to you Hamish?
