Title: McLees in 1841 Census

There are aproximately 66 McLees listed in the Scottish Census of 1841 in a large part spread about the lowland counties. There is a significant number of them at Gairloch in Ross and Cromarty Parish. THere is one family of McLees recorded in Argyll County and this is the family of John Mclee born 1776 and residing at Lochgilphead Parish at the Distillery there. I am not certain of his origins. You do find as I have mentioned the odd McLea or McLee in the 1841 Census in Argyll and none in Western Argyll.

regards,

Donald
