Hi Virginia, I was interested in your research in particular the linkage to Neil Livingston and Mary Morrison's eldest son John Livingstone b. 1777. I believe that he was named after Dr. Livingstone's great-grandfather who according to Dr. David Livingstone's autobiography died at the Battle of Culloden. Dr. Livingstone's older brother was also named John Livingstone. There is family tradition that Neil Livingston who was born at Ulva abt.1745 had lived there for several generations and an alternative story coming out of the Appin/Balachulish area that Neil's father who died at the Battle of Culloden and his ancestors for several generations actually originated from the Ballachulish area. Another theory is that Dr. Livingstone's great grandfather was at Culloden but was not killed in Battle and was infact Neil Livingstone youngest son of a then Baron Maconlea of Bachuil, Island of Lismore. regards, Donald |
