1841  County of Bute, Scotland
McLea  Maclea
15       4

1851   County of Bute
McLea   Maclea
17        2

1861    County of Bute
McLea   Maclea
17        0

There were not many McLeas/Macleas at Bute presumed to be descended from 18th century remnants of the old Lindsaig Maclea family which probably indicates there were never many of them and some of those may have ended up dispersed among the lowland Counties or emigrated. A study of the three censuses 1841, 1851 and 1861 suggests that the Rothesay, Bute Mcleas prefer the McLea spelling over the Maclea spelling.

More on MacLeas later.
